Japan has thousands of traditional festivals. These photos are of a very small festival that took place near our apartment each year. It featured two portable shrines, one for adults and one for children. I served as a shrine carrier several times and also took photos. I used and black and white film and an Nikon FM2 (often with one had as I helped carry the shrine). It was a real neighbourhood event, with local restaurants providing sake and snacks at the frequent stopping points on the shrine’s route. An electrical goods shop set up outdoor karaoke. The day ended with even more sake.
