In early summer 2022, I made my first work trip to Japan since COVID. That year, Japan seemed to skip the rainy season, and the fierce summer heat had arrived early. I decided to head out in the evenings after my work meetings. Many of these photos are from the backstreets of Ikebukuro and Shinjuku, as well as a few from Asakusa. Tokyo has a special atmosphere on summer evenings. There’s palpable relief at escaping the heat for a few hours–even when it is still over 30 Celsius. I took these photos using a Ricoh GRii that I bought second-hand during lockdown.
