Frome Independent Market
The Frome Independent is an enormously popular monthly curated street market. For this portrait project, I photographed stall-holders, as well as visitors, stewards and organisers. The event fills the town with thousands of shoppers, making it quite a challenge to photograph anyone on their own. The portrait style is what you might call semi-candid, i.e. I asked permission, but there was little planning. I was particularly interested in people on the fringes of the market, running little stalls tucked away in Frome’s backstreets.
